THINGS OVERLOOKED--PART B

I’m looking over a Four leaf Clover
That I’ve overlooked before…..

HI AGAIN...MY THOUGHTS ARE IN CAPS..NOT SHOUTING
I COULDN'T LET THIS REST UNTIL APRIL
SO HERE IS PART TWO OF 'THINGS OVERLOOKED'

Many in the forefront of contagious congregations have been speaking and doing ministry in very new ways for the last 15 years. Those in Korea, Africa, Asia, have long abandoned the “extractionistic” techniques of western Christianity. Hirsh and Frost are clear about the turn from extractionistic to immersion/incarnational approaches to ministry. I remember writing a paper about incarnational ministry in seminary—one in which I put forth the notion that “the people (saints) should be ‘Living Reminders’ (Nouwen) of Jesus in their communities.” My professors were sorely vexed by such thought. One of my dear friends in Christ (Mike MacAvoy—Open Arms Community, Bradford, PA) wrote a similar essay years ago and almost every “credentialed pastor” that read it was offended.

WHY DO YOU THINKPEOPLE REACT THIS WAY?
WHAT IS IT WE ARE TRYING TO DO?
AND WHERE DID THE NOTION THAT ONLY A SELECTED FEW
WOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE THAT WHICH WE HAVE BEEN TOLD, TASTED AND SEEN?

Others (like Wagner) are seeing and promoting the return of the first century in terms of organizational structure of the church. Gone are the two classes of people. Gone are the divisions…IN Christ there is neither greek nor jew, slave nor free, male nor female, ordained nor unordained…All are called and ordained…we call it baptism or perhaps confirmation or even dedication. And as each part of the body cannot say we don’t need the other parts, each part, joined and fitted together produces a functioning body. My friend John Laster (Detroit) says, “can you imagine if you woke up tomorrow and 50% of your body didn’t work? You would be dead.” But in the church we call it “stressed”, or in need or more volunteers.

UNTIL WE GET RID OF THE TWO CLASSES THE CHURCH WILL DECLINE
UNTIL WE GET RID OF THE NOTION OF 'PAID CHRISTIAN" WE ARE DOOMED
UNTIL EACH PART OF THE BODY IS RECOGNIZED AS VITAL AND EQUIPPED TO USE THEIR GIFTS WE WILL NOT SUCCEED.

The ordained have NOTHING the unordained saint does not have except a piece of paper and we can change that for $35 on the Internet, today!

O, HECK
THERE I HAVE GONE AND SAID IT
I AM NOT COMPARIING MYSELF TO ANYONE
BUT THIS THOUGHT
ONCE OUT OF MY HEAD
FEELS LIKE DYNAMITE
WHAT IF IT IS RIGHT????

Why is this so crucial?

God is doing a new thing. The effective congregations of the future will have the foundational gifts of apostle and prophet (as well as evangelist, pastor and teacher). The current “role” of the pastor is distorted, corrupted and immoral. Church growth people, including myself, have advocated not playing “pastor fetch”. What we should have been stating is that it takes apostles and prophets to build and grow a church—they are the foundation that Jesus set up. Pastors (shepherds) are crucial to the body. The body needs about one pastor for every 12 people (the house church model or the new cell group model).

So how is a pastor (the ordained one) to care for 120 people or 750 people or 3500 people? How is that one person supposed to preach, care, counsel, visit, teach, lead, pray, administer and keep his/her spouse from killing them as the children grow up with out a parent?

NO WONDER ONLY 20% OF THE BODY WORKS
WE HAVE TUAGHT THEM TO "WE" WILL DO IT.
WE HAVE THE FAIRY DUST
WE HAVE THE SECRET KNOWLEDGE
THE SECRET WORDS
THE SECRET HANDSHAKE

I think it is time to look back over that which we have overlooked before….The church was never meant to be hierarchal, never meant to have one person say what goes, never meant to have one person do all the work—the “paid Christian” as it were.

THERE HAS TO BE SOMEONE IN AUTHORITY
WHY?
WHO?
WHY NOT A TEAM?
TEAM LEADERSHIP?

Instead the gifts were given so the church (the believers) would all be equipped for their ministry, their life changing ministry of transformation. Perhaps it is time to go back to what was…

NOW I HAVE ALIENTED 9/10'S OF THE PEOPLE OUT THERE
ADVOCATING THAT EACH BELIEVER HAS A GIFT IS GOING TOO FAR
AND PUTTING IT IN WRITING..OUCH
THAT ONE PERSON SHOULD NOT BE THE 'PAID CHRISTIAN"
IT IS JUST TOO MUCH
SO WHY NOT HIT DELET AND END THIS
SAVE YOURSELF
NOW, HIT DELETE NOW
NO, DO NOT SEND
DO NOT SEND
NO
TOO LATE
WAY TOO LATE

On March 19-24 I will be hosting a week long “coaching” forum on “Worship” on the Easum and Bandy website. You can join the conversation by becoming a part of the EBA community (www.easumbandy.com and go to join the community). The Forum will be loosely following my new book God at the Crossroads: Four Movements of Transformational Worship. I invite you to sign up, join the conversation and help us all learn together about transformational worship.
